Thailand and China will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2025, signing 14 bilateral agreements.
The prime ministers of Thailand and China jointly presided over the signing of 14 bilateral agreements at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. These agreements strengthen cooperation between the two countries in several strategic areas as they actively prepare for the 50th anniversary celebrations in 2025, the so-called "Golden Year of Thai-Chinese Friendship."
These agreements include a joint statement and 13 Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) covering cooperation in the areas of economy, investment, energy, and customs. Key Thai agencies involved include the National Economic and Social Development Council, the Ministry of Energy, and the Eastern Economic Corridor Office. Some MOUs also focus on scientific cooperation, technological advancement, and digital economy initiatives.
Another series of agreements concerns customs cooperation, streamlining agricultural trade, and cross-border goods processing through cooperation between the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Customs Department and their Chinese counterparts. These efforts aim to improve trade efficiency and ensure smooth market access for major agricultural exports.
In the area of science and technology cooperation, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society signed several agreements. These collaborative projects focus on research, innovation, and digital transformation, aiming to support Thailand's economic modernization and regional technological integration.
The talks also emphasized information and media cooperation, with the Thai Ministry of Public Relations and Thai Public Television signing a cooperation agreement with Xinhua News Agency. These efforts aim to combat disinformation, strengthen news exchange, and enhance cybersecurity capabilities against digital threats such as scam call centers and online fraud—issues that Thai Prime Minister Patthongkham also highlighted during his talks with Chinese leaders.
